1 Peter 1:3-5
- Resurrection (3)
All the hope we have in a time of death is the fact that Christ has conquered death. He grants eternal life to all who believe by grace through faith.
- Reward (4a)
This description of heaven is a wonderful word describing a saints’ inheritance in heaven. It is incorruptible, impeccable, and imperishable.
- Reservation (4b-5a)
The inheritance described in point two is only reserved for those who are being kept by the power of God through faith. This is the evangelistic portion of the message.
- Rejoicing (5b)
This promise of a future revelation “in the last time” is a wonderful promise to reassure the hearts of believers. Use this opportunity to speak comfort to the family.

Psalm 116:15
- What God says (Precious)
Using the word “precious,” this is a chance to eulogize the deceased. Precious father, precious friend, precious son, etc. Incorporate words spoken by the friends and family.
- That God sees (in the sight of the Lord)
This phrase is a reminder that the eyes of the Lord are always upon His people. He sees the hurt, the tears, the loss, etc. The Man of Sorrows was acquainted with grief and He sees the condition of His people. This phrase can be used to comfort the family.
- How God saves (is the death of His saints)
In Ezekiel, God says He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. But this verse says He delights in the death of a saint. Ask the question, “What makes the difference?” Use this phrase to present the gospel and invite people to be saved.
